May is National Bike-To-Work-Week, and once again we are hosting 2 energizer stations! Come visit us at the Missing Link's Main Store Energizer Station for free goodies and refreshments while they last! Our store will be open at 7 am. We are also hosting an Energizer Station at Berkeley Arts Magnet School at the corner of Virginia and Milvia from 7-9 am.
You can find out about other Bay Area events and register to win prizes at http://btwd.bayareabikes.org/.
Last year's event was a huge success. It was observed that there were more bikes than cars on Market Street in San Francisco. We'd love to see this years event outdo last years for turnout , so we are asking anyone who already regularly commutes by bike to tell at least one friend or co-worker about it, we can make this the best BTWD ever!
36 Years! That's how long the Missing Link Bicycle Co-op has been a Berkeley institution. Some think we should be in an institution, but that's another story. We are located just below the U.C. campus in Berkeley, California, and we sell, repair, and recondition bicycles.
This business is different from others, the Link is owned and operated by a 20 headed monster....us the coop members. How, you might ask, does this benefit you aside from the low prices, smart help, free repair classes, free loaner tools, and the best music this side of KALX?
Employees: It's a good place to work, so we stay here a long time.....
25 years, or more, in some cases, so you'll see familiar faces in the store.
Sales: We're not on commission, so you won't ever be pushed into a sale. You'll also get a variety of opinions from different members.
Bikes: We know that a comfortable ride is what matters most, so we take the time to make sure that each bike we sell fits your needs and your body.
Service: Since there's no boss cracking a whip to make us work faster, we can take the time to ensure careful and precise work which will perform better and last longer. We have a combined experience of over 250 years. Older than this great nation!
We also sponsor the Lost Coast Brewery off-road racing team and offer discounts to members of many local clubs.
Feel free to poke around; there's enough information here to fill up a nicely sized lunch break. As ever, let us know if there's something we can do for you.
For those of you interested in how a collectively run business operates, there is now available a 28 minute video about 3 collectively run businesses--the Cheeseboard Bakery and Cheese shop, Rainbow Grocery, and Inkworks Press--all in the San Francisco Bay Area. Collectives often use the video to orient workers to their unique work philosophy. Here, the worker-owners of three successful businesses show what it's like to work collectively, manage a business and deal with problems in a truly democratic way. click for more info...
Vote for us for Best Bike Shop! We've been nominated for Best Bike Shop in the SF Chronicle sfgate BayList contest.
We hope you like us enough to vote for us at
http://baylist.sfgate.com/missing-link-bicycle-co-op/biz/89978.
If you've had a good experience here, please give us props, but if we're not your favorite bike shop, we'd like to know why, so we can work to be even better. We are always happy to get feedback!
Clif Bar Voluntary Recall
On January 30, 2009, we expanded our voluntary and precautionary recall of CLIF® and LUNA® branded bars because of concern that the recalled bars contain peanut products that were manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), which is the focus of an ongoing Salmonella investigation. Clif Bar & Company took this action
in response to PCA’s recent expan
sion of its peanut products recall to include all peanut products produced in PCA’s Blakely, Georgia plant since January 1, 2007.
In light of PCA’s actions, and with continued caution, we’ve expanded our voluntary recall. We take the health and safety of our consumers very seriously.
