Join us on Saturday at the East Bay Bicycle Coalition's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the new West Street Pathway, followed by a community ride to the Bikes in Berkeley Fest at Washington Elementary from noon to 5 pm.

Tons of family-friendly events are planned, including bike decorating, a bike swap, trivia contests, tune ups, bike blenders, and much more! Don't miss it! The Missing Link will be contributing our mechanical services to make sure all the bike swap kids' bikes are in tip top shape.

EBBC is also offering a Family Cycling Workshop starting at 10 am. This workshop is for kids who are able to ride a bike and ready to ride on the roadways with their parents. Parents and kids must attend together and should bring their own bikes and helmets. Each child receives a free red blinky light for participating! Register for this class here.

Spent an evening getting to know the boys of Berkeley Cub Scouts Pack 30, Den 4 last night.  The Missing Link hosted the kids at our repair shop for a demonstration on basic bicycle maintenance, including flat tire repair.  I'm a father myself and we're definitely a cycling family.  My kids spent a lot of time at the Missing Link when they were younger, where their mom works, too!  We've both been active in working with schools and other organizations, like the Cub Scouts, to get more kids on bikes by giving them the skills they need and creating a safer environment for them to ride.  Anyway, the kids last night were great.  They seemed really interested and I think they learned a lot - although since they ARE ten-year-old boys, there was a certain amount of snickering (for example, every time I said the word "nut"!).

With the 2001 cyclocross season on thew way, I thought it appropriate to share a couple of links to an article which ran on the Velonews Competitor site recently about the origins of Bay Area cyclocross here, and to a video passed on by a friend of mine taken during the early, early days of cross here.

I thought it might also be an opportunity to plug our own Missing Link sponsored team. After re-formin in 2010, the Missing Link / 3rd Rail Team will again field a 15-20 person team to compete primarily in the discipline of Cyclocross. We have Elite, Masters and Jr. team members. 2010 Sponsors included The Missing Link Bicycle Cooperative, Pizzaiolo, Catahoula Coffee, Stevens Bikes, Giro, Easton, Beljum Budder & CheFlandria Gaufre Waffles.
