Bike Warranties

MISSING LINK SERVICE WARRANTY ON NEW BIKES

With the purchase of your new mountain, road or hybrid bicycle, The Missing Link provides a 1 year period of free adjustments.

In order to activate your warranty, you must bring in your bicycle for an adjustment service within the first 30 days of ownership.

An adjustment service includes: adjustment of the brakes, gears and all bearing assemblies; truing the wheels; lubricating the chain; and re-tightening the binder bolts. This warranty does not include: fixing flats; repairing or replacing damaged parts due to misuse, abuse or neglect; or repairing or replacing worn or damaged parts due to normal use.

In addition to The Missing Link Warranty, you also get the manufacturers warranty. Read your owners manual for details.

Missing Link Warranty on Used Bikes

Every used bicycle sold at the Missing Link has been inspected and tuned-up by our mechanics.

With the purchase of this used bicycle from the Missing Link, you get our 90-day guarantee. We guarantee that for 90 days from the date of purchase your used bicycle will be in the same working condition that it was when you bought it.

This guarantee does not include: fixing flats; repairing or replacing damaged parts due to misuse, abuse, or neglect; or repairing or replacing worn or damaged parts due to normal use. This guarantee is nontransferable. This guarantee does not apply to used bicycles sold as is.

Manufacturers Warranties

All manufacturers warranties apply to the original owner only; proof of purchase is often required and in some cases (particularly Bianchi) will be demanded before claim will be considered. Customers should keep a copy of their original receipt.

No manufacturer covers our labor charges. Labor charges to strip and rebuild are typically $150.00 to $200.00. Customers can save money by removing parts themselves and giving us as bare a frame as possible. Typically, the labor charge for BB and headset removal and installation is $40.00 to $80.00. Replacement frames often need new parts, such as seat post, bottom bracket, headset, cables and housing. The customer is responsible for buying these parts.

Many manufacturers offer crash replacement frames at a discount. If the replacement cost of a warranty bike is low, often our shop labor charges involved in rebuilding old parts onto new frame make it cost prohibitive relative to taking the crashed frame credit and buying a new bike. Please recommend this option to your customer.

Below are excerpts from manufacturers full warranties.

Dealer labor charges for installing replacement parts and any transportation expense associated with warranty related work, are the sole responsibility of the bicycle owner.

Marin

Marin's warranty is complicated as most bikes are not explicitly covered for a specified period of time. Most bikes we carry are covered under the product lifetime warranty. Product lifetime is a variable time period and the length is at the discretion of the Marin. Any previously issued written warranty no longer applies; only what warranty is in force as described on their website at the time the warranty claim is filed. The full warranty is available on their website: www.marinbikes.com

Marin Mountain Bikes, Inc. (producer/manufacturer/distributor) (hereinafter "Marin") warrants to the original retail purchaser ("you") that the Marin product for which you received this warranty is free from defects in material and workmanship for the periods and products set forth below from the date of original retail purchase in North America:
Product Lifetime: All Marin® Bikes frames including pivot hardware and bearings of Full suspension Marin® frames (Except QUAD XC, QUAD Trail, QUAD XLT, Team HT, DIRT JUMP and carbon fiber frames as covered below). Bicycles have an unquantifiable product lifetime that will be determined by Marin Bikes on a case-by-case basis;

5 Years: Marin® QUAD XC, QUAD TRAIL bike frames and carbon fiber Road frames

3 years: Marin® Team CXR and Team HT hardtail bike frames;

1 year: QUAD XLT and DIRT JUMP

Not Covered: Suspension forks, and Rear shocks on suspension bikes; Resold, rental or used bicycles; any damage incurred through the installation or use of a rack. (also see warranty exclusions below)

[Note: Marin verbally includes Kentfield, Larkspur, and Muirwoods bikes in the 5 year warranty group, although the website warranty includes them in the product lifetime group which means the time period is at the discretion of Marin.]

Warranty Limitations

This warranty is not transferable to a subsequent purchaser. Marin's sole obligation under this warranty is to either, at its discretion: (1) repair the claimed defect at no charge, (2) exchange the product with a product that is new or which is at least functionally equivalent to the original product, or (3) a credit amount, determined by Marin towards the purchase of a new product. Marin must be notified in writing of any claim under this warranty within 60 days of any claimed lack of conformity of the product.

Jamis

warranty coverage on bicycle frames and rigid forks extends for the lifetime of the bicycle while owned by the original retail purchaser, except for the following bicycles:

(d) Full suspension bicycles with rear suspension travel of 5 or less: 5 years.

(e) Full suspension bicycles with rear suspension travel of more that 5: 2 years.

(f) Komodo and Kromo bicycles: 5 years.

The components, other than frame and fork, are warranted for 1 (one) year.

The return of the warranty registration form within 30 days of purchase is a condition precedent to coverage as provided herein.

Surly

Surly frames and forks are guaranteed to be free from manufacturing defects for three years from the original date of purchase. What this means is that if we (SURLY) screwed up something in the manufacturing process that resulted in the premature failure of the product, well fix or replace it at our discretion. This warranty is for the original buyer of the product and is not transferable. It should go without saying that we wont even consider your warranty problem without a dated proof-of-purchase.

Sorry, the paint job isnt covered, nor is any damage that happens to you or your other components as a result of any failure of one of our products.

Dahon

Dahon warrants its bicycle frames, handleposts, and rigid forks to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for a period of five years. In addition, Dahon warrants all original parts on the bicycle, excluding suspension forks and rear shocks, for a period of one year from the date of purchase. Suspension forks and rear shocks shall be covered by the warranty of their original manufacturers.

The warranty on the frame, handlepost and rigid fork may be upgraded to a lifetime warranty if the original owner fills out the online registration card.
